Ball State sneaks past injury-ridden Mavericks.

(OMAHA, Ne)—-Coming off a tightly-contested 1-0 loss to the No. 20 Memphis Tigers, the Omaha women’s soccer team welcomed the Ball State Cardinals on Friday night. The 1-0 scoreline repeated itself as a 45’ strike from Nicky Potts was enough to get the Cardinals a win over an injury-ridden Maverick squad.

Tim Walters, in his third year at the helm of the program, has already seen junior forward Bailey Cascio sidelined with a broken collarbone, freshman fullback Grace Thede tear her ACL and junior midfielder Andrea Daves coming off in the 3’ against Northern Iowa with an apparent quad injury. Daves was back in action against the Cardinals, having to come on in the 10’ as freshman midfielder Regan Zimmers was carried off with an injury which is being reported as an ACL tear.

Omaha’s best chance came in the 48’ when sophomore transfer forward Amanda Rapaduski’s shot inside the 18-yard-box struck the near post. The former Butler Bulldog led the team in shooting with five attempts but is still looking to score her second goal for Omaha after scoring in the home opener against Illinois State.

The Mavericks’ redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Kelly Lemke made her third start following an Erin Bunker red card in the 90’ against Memphis. Lemke appears to be the starter moving forward, and she chalked up five saves in her first collegiate loss.

Omaha travels to Ames, Iowa next where they will take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Sept. 8.
