Omaha, Neb.—Hundreds of local women gathered in downtown Omaha Sunday in an act of solidarity for those they contend are not normally recognized in the metro. Officials with the Omaha Women’s Day March said the event is designed to coincide with March 8, the day designated to recognize women across the globe. Officials said the rally was a display promoting unity and celebration of womanhood.
UNO student Izzy Howell said the event reinforced her beliefs. “Just to see how many people feel the same way as I do,” she said.
The march started at the Douglas County Courthouse then wrapped around Farnam and Harney Streets. Local poet, Gab Rima, said marches like these aren’t meant to impact public opinion because that isn’t the objective. “It is a great tool for celebrating our activism, learning from others and reflecting on what we are doing to support women year-round,” said Rima.
