Compared to Day 1, which was relaxed with an easier-going crowd, Day 2 brought an edgy crowd with lifelong fans. Some have traveled as far as the east coast to see Father John Misty and Weezer. The same organizations pitched tents like yesterday, but with the addition of a few more.
MavRadio feasted on the delicious, unique vendor, Rice, Rice Baby, and got our hunger on with deep fried oreos. We continued on with interviews, talking with concert-goers, snapping photos, enjoying the amazing bands and updating our social media. We also ran into fellow journalists from The Gateway and UNL’s College of Journalism students, as well as fellow classmates from UNO.
The two most-anticipated concerts were Father John Misty and Weezer. Needless to say, the bands leading up to the final concert kept the crowd energized and excited throughout the day and night. Father John Misty was a smooth-rockin’, Folk/Indie band that wasn’t afraid of saying what was on their mind. Then finally, Weezer took the stage and gave a climactic performance, playing hits old and new. They not only played songs from their past discography, but played covers of the hits “Africa” by Toto, “Take On Me” by A-Ha, and “Happy Together” by The Turtles. His crowd held up “W” signs, crowd surfed, sang along, and even fainted due to the heat of the crowd. His amazing performance only left the crowd wanting more, and he wrapped it up with a breathtaking encore.
A huge thank you to the artists, vendors, volunteers and sponsors that made the 10th Annual Maha festival possible. And an even bigger thank you to Maha Music Festival and Big Omaha for allowing us to be here, gaining experience in the field.
