Mavericks down crosstown rival Creighton

(Omaha) — The Omaha Baseball Team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they defeated Creighton 4-1 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night in a game heard on MavRadio.

Junior Zach Williamsen (2-2) spun a gem for the Mavericks, throwing 6 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, while allowing six hits, striking out one, and walking one.

The Mavericks got the scoring going in the first inning when Clayton Taylor blasted his team-leading sixth homer of the year over the right field wall.  Taylor finished the game 2-for-4, scored two runs, and drove in one.

In the third, Brett Bass collected a two-out, two-run single up the middle to put the Mavericks up 3-0.  Bass would come through again in the sixth with an RBI-double to score Alex Schultz.  Bass finished the game 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.

Creighton would finally scratch across a run in the eighth, as Mike Gerber doubled down the right field line, scoring Ryan Fitzgerald.

Anthony Falcone delivered a perfect ninth inning to close the door on the Bluejays and nail down his third save of the year.  Taylor Elman (2-4) took the loss for the Bluejays.

The win moves the Mavericks to 20-13 on the season, while Creighton dropped to 20-13-1.
