Nebraska bullpen pins down Mavericks

(Omaha) — The Omaha Baseball team dropped a mid-week contest to in-state foe Nebraska on Wednesday 4-1 at Werner Park in a game heard on MavRadio.

After trading scoreless frames for 4 1/2 innings, Omaha tallied the first run of the game on a Connor Messinger RBI-single.

Nebraska answered in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on back-to-back doubles and a single.  The Huskers added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings on a Ben Miller single and Austin Darby infield single.

Nebraska’s bullpen held down the Maverick offense late in the game, allowing no runs and only three hits over the last 4.1 innings.  Bob Greco (2-1) picked up the win, throwing 1.1 innings without allowing a base runner.

Zach Hirsch recorded a hold, as he allowed only two hits and struck out one in two innings of work.  Josh Roeder locked down his 10th save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth, while only allowing one hit.

Zach Williamsen (2-3) was saddled with the loss, giving up two earned runs on five hits over 5.1 innings of work.  Tyler Splichal lead Omaha at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Nebraska (29-17, 10-5) will host Penn State in a Big Ten Conference series this weekend in Lincoln.

Omaha (21-17, 6-6) travels to South Dakota State this weekend for a four-game conference series.  Friday’s game is set for a 3 p.m. start, Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., and Sunday’s game is slated for 1 p.m.  Links to live stats and audio will be available by clicking here.
