Caleb Palensky had a big day at the plate for the Mavs, finishing game one with two hits, while driving in a run.
Omaha jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, before NDSU scored four runs on two Maverick errors to take a lead they would never relinquish. NDSU added another run in the seventh to go up 5-1.
Omaha rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough as NDSU took game one 5-4.
Palensky had another great game in the second half of the doubleheader. The senior finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI.
The Bison jumped on Omaha quick, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Mavericks responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame, before NDSU struck for two more runs in the second, pushing their lead to 6-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Mavericks would score three runs to push the score to 6-4, before NDSU immediately answered with two more runs of their own.
The teams later exchanged runs and NDSU pulled away for a 9-5 victory and a sweep of the doubleheader.
