School of Communication Sees Huge Payoff in the annual Eric Sevareid Award Competition

MAVRADIO EARNS 10 ERIC SEVAREID AWARDS

(OMAHA, Neb.)- University of Nebraska at Omaha, School of Communication students, who participate in MavRadio.FM, earned 10 Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Eric Sevareid awards at the Midwest Journalism Conference. The conference, typically held in Minneapolis, was virtual again this year as a response to protect the health and wellness of our communities. Today, the students were presented with their awards by Dr. Chris Allen, JMC Coordinator, KVNO & UNO-TV General Manager.

UNO senior Avarie Howard is the first female sports play-by-play announcer to receive a first place Eric Sevareid Award. She and her colleagues, Matt Kirkle and Jack McGonigal, earned the top spot for their Omaha Men’s basketball call against Kansas.

Six states make up the regional conference including: Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.  The full list can be found on midwestjournalism.com. The following is a list of UNO award winners:
