Shaw lead Mavericks past Terriers

The Mavericks continued their four-game home stand with a 25-point victory over the Wofford Terriers on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Mavericks brought their record back to .500 at 3-3 (0-0 Summit League), while the Terriers fell to 3-2 (0-0 Southern).

Omaha was paced by Senior forward Mikaela Shaw and her 21 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Both Junior guard Moriah and Senior forward Michaela Dapprich finished with nine points on the afternoon, and all twelve Mavs who saw action in the game contributed in the scoring column. Overall, the Mavericks shot 53.7 percent (36-67), including 39 percent (9-23) from beyond the three-point arc.

Wofford was led by 13 points from Senior guard Kentra Washington, and another 13 off the bench from Junior forward Kelsey Lambdin. The team shot 48 percent from the floor, and 50 percent from three-point range, but struggled on the defensive side of things. The Mavericks out-rebounded the Terriers 40-19, including 26-16 on defensive rebounds.

The first quarter saw both teams go back and forth, with a total of six lead changes. Following a layup from Sophomore guard Chloe Wanink, the Mavs took the lead for good on a three-point basket from Junior guard Marissa Preston. Omaha pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Wofford 23-7 for the quarter and ending the half on an 18-3 run.

The Mavericks continued to hold their lead throughout the second half. The team shot over 80 percent for the third quarter before falling back to 41 percent in the fourth, and although Wofford shot 69 percent in the fourth quarter, it was not enough to bring the Terriers back in this one.

The Mavericks look to continue their winning ways when they host Lincoln University on Thursday, December 1st. Coverage of the game can be heard on MavRadio shortly before 7:00 pm, with tip-off scheduled for 7 pm.
