Omaha women’s track & field star Sami Spenner has been named The Summit League Female Athlete of the month for January.
Spenner, a senior from Columbus, Neb., claims her third Athlete of the Month award after posting the third-best score in the pentathlon in the United States this year. The score of 4,406 points is also sixth all-time among collegiate athletes.
The record-setting performance came on Jan. 31 at the Jack Jennett Invitational, where Spenner swept all five of the events, including a school record 20’09” (6.32m) in the long jump.
Spenner also became only the sixth woman in collegiate history to go over the 4,400-point mark in the event.
The Omaha Women’s Track & Field team is in action this weekend (Feb. 8th) as they travel to Vermillion, S.D. for the USD Alumni Meet.
